Every feature, explained in plain English.
IBeX4 is built on Asterisk 22 and is fully compatible with it. Here is what it does, without the jargon.
The switch behind your phones
Built on Asterisk 22
Asterisk is the world’s most widely used open-source phone system engine. IBeX4 is based on Asterisk 22, the current long-term support release, packaged, tested and supported by FTI.
Fully Asterisk compatible
Standard Asterisk dial plans, configuration and interfaces (AMI, ARI and AGI) work on IBeX4, so existing Asterisk knowledge, tools and integrations carry over.
Any standards-based SIP phone or app
Use desk phones, cordless phones, conference phones, softphones and mobile apps from any manufacturer that follows the SIP standard. No proprietary handsets required.
All features included
Every feature on this page is part of the IBeX4 licence. There are no feature packs or add-on modules to buy.
Everyday calling
The basics every phone user relies on.
| Feature | What it means |
|---|---|
| Extension-to-extension calling | Call anyone in your organization by dialing their short extension number, in the same building or another country. |
| Caller ID (name and number) | See who is calling before you answer, and show your name and number when you call out. |
| Caller ID blocking | Hide your number on an outgoing call when you need privacy. |
| Call waiting | Hear a soft tone when a second call arrives while you’re on the phone, and switch between the two. |
| Hold and music on hold | Put a caller on hold; they hear music or your own recorded messages instead of silence. |
| Blind transfer | Send a caller straight to someone else without speaking to them first. |
| Attended (warm) transfer | Talk to the person first, introduce the caller, then hand the call over. |
| Three-way calling | Add a third person to a call you are already on. |
| Call forwarding | Send your calls to another number or extension: always, when you’re busy, or when you don’t answer. |
| Follow-me / find-me | Ring your desk phone, then your mobile, then another number in turn, so callers reach you wherever you are. |
| Do not disturb | Stop your phone ringing; callers go straight to voicemail or another destination. |
| Speed dial | Store frequently called numbers under short codes. |
| Intercom | Call a colleague’s phone and have it answer automatically on speaker, like an office intercom. |
| Paging | Make an announcement through the speakers of a group of phones or an overhead paging system. |
| Call park and retrieve | Place a call in a numbered ‘parking space’ so anyone can pick it up from another phone. |
| Call pickup | Answer a colleague’s ringing phone from your own phone, individually or for your whole group. |
| Distinctive ring | Different ring patterns tell you whether a call is internal, external or from a particular line. |
Answering and routing calls
Make sure every call reaches the right person.
| Feature | What it means |
|---|---|
| Auto attendant (IVR) | The recorded ‘press 1 for sales, 2 for support’ menu that answers and directs callers for you. |
| Time-of-day and holiday routing | Send calls to different places during business hours, after hours, at weekends and on holidays. |
| Direct numbers (DID routing) | Give people or departments their own phone numbers that ring them directly. |
| Ring groups (hunt groups) | Ring several phones at once or one after another, so a group shares incoming calls. |
| Caller ID routing and blocklists | Route calls based on who is calling, and block unwanted numbers. |
| Multi-carrier outbound routing | Choose which phone line or carrier each outgoing call uses, for cost or reliability. |
| Emergency call routing | Sends emergency calls out the right route with the caller’s location details configured for each site. |
Call centers and queues
Tools for teams that handle many calls.
| Feature | What it means |
|---|---|
| Call queues (ACD) | Callers wait in line and are answered in order by the next available agent. |
| Queue strategies | Decide how calls are shared out: ring everyone, round robin, the agent who’s been idle longest, and more. |
| Agent login and logout | Agents join or leave a queue from any phone, so only people who are working receive calls. |
| Position and hold-time announcements | Tell waiting callers their place in line and the expected wait. |
| Real-time queue statistics | See calls waiting, agents available and wait times as they happen, for wallboards and supervisors. |
| Listen, whisper and barge | Supervisors can listen to a call, coach the agent without the caller hearing, or join the call. |
Voicemail and messaging
Never miss a message.
| Feature | What it means |
|---|---|
| Voicemail | Callers can leave a message when you can’t answer; you play it back from any phone. |
| Voicemail to email | Receive voicemail messages as audio attachments in your email. |
| Message waiting light | A light or icon on your phone shows when you have new voicemail. |
| Custom greetings | Record different greetings for busy, unavailable and temporary absences such as vacation. |
| Group voicemail boxes | A shared mailbox for a team or department. |
| Dial-by-name directory | Callers find someone by spelling their name on the keypad. |
Conferencing
Meet by phone.
| Feature | What it means |
|---|---|
| Conference bridges | Dial-in conference rooms with PIN protection for any number of participants, in high-definition audio where phones support it. |
| Conference controls | Mute participants, lock the room, and hear who joins and leaves. |
Recording and reporting
Know what happened on your phone system.
| Feature | What it means |
|---|---|
| Call recording | Record calls automatically or on demand, for training, quality and records. |
| Call detail records (CDR) | A log of every call: who called whom, when and for how long, for billing and reporting. |
| Channel event logging (CEL) | A detailed step-by-step trail of each call, including transfers and holds, for deeper analysis. |

Security
Protect your calls and your system.
| Feature | What it means |
|---|---|
| Encrypted signalling (TLS) | Scrambles call setup information so it can’t be read on the network. |
| Encrypted audio (SRTP) | Scrambles the conversation itself so calls can’t be listened in on. |
| Caller ID verification (STIR/SHAKEN) | Supports the US standard for checking that a caller’s number is genuine, helping fight spoofed calls. |
| Access controls | Limit which networks and devices can connect to the phone system. |

| Feature | What it means |
|---|---|
